Boat Ramp Fee Waiver
The State Government recently announced the Algal Bloom Summer Plan which outlines a series of short and long-term measures to support communities and industries impacted by the algal bloom. The Plan includes a commitment from the State Government to work with affected councils to provide free boat launch facilities across the State for 12 months commencing on 1 December 2025.
As some users have purchased annual permits that extend into the waiver period, Administration has reviewed the system’s capability to calculate and process pro-rata refunds. The software provider has confirmed that this functionality can be implemented and corporate services have commenced reviewing the permits and calculating refunds ahead of the 1 December date.
While consideration was given to keeping a permit system in place at Coffin Bay to ensure people retained the habit of registering a permit but requiring no payment, given the costs that would be associated with monitoring permits that attract no fees, this was not put forward as an option to council.
Ahead of the conclusion of the waiver period, Administration will commence advertising of the requirements for permits recommencing to ensure the public are well informed ahead of the reinstatement of fees.
