Kerbside recycling is here - find out more here.

As part of the 2021/22 Annual Business Plan, Council will trial a fortnightly kerbside recycling collection in all major townships from November.

The landowners in the following townships will receive a recycling bin for fortnightly collection:

  • Cummins
  • Coffin Bay
  • Boston
  • Tiatukia
  • Tulka
  • Poonindie
  • North Shields
  • Louth Bay

Residents will receive their bin next month. To view the collection schedule for your area, download the brochure here.

The trial will conclude on June 31, 2022 and will determine how much general waste can be diverted to recycling. Council will then be able to explore whether to continue with kerbside recycling and if so, its related costs.

Council estimates kerbside recycling will cost $115 per bin, per year, although since the trial is only taking place from November 2021 to June 2022, ratepayers will notice a different amount listed on their current rates notices.

FAQs

Q: Where is the recycling waste going?

A:  The recycling will be processed to Port Lincoln for transport to Adelaide.  Recycling will not go to landfill in the Eyre Peninsula.

Q: Can I choose not to recycle?

A: Yes, you can elect not to put your yellow bin out, however the cost is included as a compulsory service charge in your rates. The more recycling becomes the normal standard, the cheaper it becomes and the less we add to landfill (which is great for the environment).

Q: Why are my bins collected on different days? (Boston and Tulka residents)

A: For most towns, recycling pickup is on the same day as the general waste pick up. Some towns (Tulka and parts of Boston) have different collection days for their red and yellow bins. Council has focused heavily on ensuring that kerbside recycling as cost efficient as possible, which has resulted in these different pick up days.

Q: When is my yellow bin being picked up?

A: The kerbside recycling is a fortnightly pickup with the pickup day depending on what town you are in.
